A lifelong obsession with how people live

I’ve spent my career at the place where design meets real life, studying what makes a house feel right for the people in it.

That’s meant leading in the home and design industry, building programs that teach professionals how to understand design, and being sought out by national media for a point of view that puts the person ahead of the trend. Real Simple and others come to me for exactly that.

Through all of it, the work I love most has stayed personal: the rooms and the renovations, the projects I take on myself, the long conversations about how someone wants to feel when they walk in the door.

My taste lives somewhere between bold and restrained, old and new. A room should make you want to stay in it while feeling completely at home inside it. I’m drawn to people who love good things and live easily among them, the ones who want a beautiful house and a beach towel drying over the railing.
